*Action Items as of August 18*

(high priority)
[ACTION] All will review the new PIC-SER documentation and send comments to
Candace.
[ACTION] Steve will contact David at Penn to set up testing.
[ACTION] Steve will look into the IP tables issue.

Both are done. IP Tables was not an obstacle. Dave & I still do not receive
reliable presence updates. Given the short amount of time that remains, and our
need to re-purpose the test server, I do not think we will spend much more time
on this issue.

[ACTION] On the August 18 call the group will identify someone to create a
PIC-SER user feedback form, to be available by September 1.
[ACTION] Rodger will pursue call-schedule consensus on the PIC list.
[ACTION] Rodger and Ben T. will confer about recruiting participants for a
panel
on open-source and commercial implementations of SIP.

(medium priority)
[ACTION] Ben T. will put Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 on PALS, backing up the
SQL
database so we can re-create accounts later; then Jamey will update SER on
PALS
with the latest PIC-SER package.
[ACTION] Anyone who has a BSD or other unusual Unix-like system on which they
can do a test install of the PIC-SER package, will contact Candace.
[ACTION] Candace will add a Wiki document on strict vs. loose routing.

(low priority)
[ACTION] Candace and Jamey will initiate an email discussion of their proposal
to modify the SER PA module so it can do presence via SUBSCRIBE and NOTIFY, to
accommodate clients that don't do PUBLISH.
[ACTION] Jamey will enable eyeBeam to use presence info to decide
whether messages should go straight to voicemail.
[ACTION] Jamey will update the interface requirements document.
[ACTION] Jamey will continue working on the future of the skiffs, and solicit
opinions from PIC members as needed.
[ACTION] People will research skiff-like offerings from various companies:
- Dennis - Newbury
- Steve B. - Airwave

I'm not doing anything more on this issue.

- Rodger - Airespace (now part of Cisco)
- Jeremy - Eckehau (via Walt Magnussen)
[ACTION] Candace will look into Tyler Johnson's H.350-enabled version of the
NIST client.
[ACTION] Ben T. will write a short document describing the motivation for the
paths-in-the-snow approach to PIC development.

*Attendees*

Rodger Will (chair) - Ford
Joe Rork - Ford
Steve Blair - Penn
John Stier - Stony Brook
Candace Holman - Harvard
Ben Chinowsky (scribe) - Internet2

*Discussion*

The group reviewed planned attendance at the Internet2 Fall Member Meeting.
John, Rodger, and Rodger's boss will be there; Joe might be; Candace probably
won't.

The group reviewed PIC-SER status. Rodger noted that most outstanding issues
got
resolved as a result of the August 4 call (see Candace's August 4 note to the
PIC-SER list). Candace has posted a Testing Guide, Troubleshooting Guide ("how
to unwedge the server"), and Bug Collection Guide; see
http://pic.internet2.edu/pic-ser/ch/PIC-SER-Documentation.html. [ACTION] All
will review the new PIC-SER documentation and send comments to Candace.
Candace
observed that while most PIC-SER participants have done some client testing,
we
need to pick up the pace of testing if we want to have something to report at
the Member Meeting. Candace has been doing much of the testing herself, and
she'll be out for the last two weeks of August. [ACTION] Steve will contact
David at Penn to set up testing. [ACTION] Steve will look into the IP tables
issue. [ACTION] On the August 18 call the group will identify someone to
create
a PIC-SER user feedback form, to be available by September 1.
