As was pre-announced on the call last week, the PIC working group has
a new chair. Having founded the working group a little over two years
ago and having lead it with grace and vision since then, Jeremy George
(Yale University) has decided to step aside as chair. Jeremy has
achieved many of his original goals: raising awareness of the
potential of SIP/SIMPLE based communications; demonstrating how campus
middleware and network assets may be leveraged to enhance new campus
communications services with rich presence and location; creating
constructive dialog around privacy issues; and building a strong
community of implementors and visionaries. That the Internet2
Applications Strategy Council (ASC) and the Internet2 Industry
Strategy Council (ISC) have now both identified the deployment of
integrated collaborative applications as a top strategic priority is
in no small way a testament to Jeremy's success. We all owe Jeremy an
enormous debt of gratitude for his leadership and service to the
community.

Stepping into the role of Chair is Rodger Will (Ford Motor Company).
Rodger should be no stranger to anyone who is active in (or who
follows) the working group. Rodger has been deeply engaged in the PIC
working group almost since its inception and brings to the role of
chair a unique industry perspective, tremendous energy, a wealth of
experience, and more than a few strong opinions! I am greatly looking
forward to working with Rodger.

Although Jeremy is going to shift some of his energy to other
pursuits, I am delighted to report that he promises to remain an
active participant in the PIC working group.

Please join the call this afternoon to thank Jeremy for his leadership
and service and to welcome Rodger as Chair.
