*Action Items as of June 8*
(new)
[ACTION] PIC-SER committee members will review proposals in preparation for a
conference call at 1pm-3pm Eastern on June 14.
(from previous calls)
[ACTION] Jamey, Steve and Ben T. will install the pre-release PIC-SER
RPM, using Candace's draft install doc and taking notes for improvements
to both the package and the documentation.
[ACTION] Rodger will ask Jiri for comment on SIPPS.
[ACTION] Candace will look into Tyler Johnson's H.350-enabled version of the
NIST client.
[ACTION] Jamey will continue to pursue interoperability issues with Jeff King
at Wave3 and the SIP expert at Xten.
[ACTION] Jamey will enable eyeBeam to use presence info to decide
whether messages should go straight to voicemail.
[ACTION] Jamey will update the interface requirements document.
[ACTION] Candace will write a description of a simple way to append PUBLISH
messages from the client to the servers, in order to provide a basic way to
do location and presence tracking.
[ACTION] Ben T. will write a short document describing the motivation for the
paths-in-the-snow approach to PIC development.
[ACTION] Jamey will continue working on the future of the skiffs, and solicit
opinions from PIC members as needed.
[ACTION] People will research skiff-like offerings from various companies:
- Dennis - Newbury
- Steve - Airwave
- Rodger - Airespace (now part of Cisco)
- Jeremy - Eckehau (via Walt Magnussen)
*Attendees*
Jeremy George (chair) - Yale
Steve Blair - Penn
Deke Kassabian - Penn
Candace Holman - Harvard
Jamey Hicks - HP
Joe Rork - Ford
Rodger Will - Ford
Ben Chinowsky (scribe) - Internet2
*Discussion*
Steve offered a little more information on SIPPS. He has a coworker who uses
the
free version and reports good sound quality using the G711 codec. SER proxy
registration works. The paid version is $25 and is much more feature-rich,
including voice recording; however it appears not to have presence
capabilities.
Candace has received nine PIC-SER proposals. [ACTION] PIC-SER committee
members
will review proposals in preparation for a conference call at 1pm-3pm Eastern
on
June 14. Candace is planning to write up a test framework for PIC-SER
participants; she also suggested we supply use cases and see if we might be
able
to provide some local training. The group agreed to plan a second Q&A
conference
call after the package has been released.
Rodger is on the program committee for the Fall Internet2 Member Meeting; he's
looking for suggestions on PIC activities there. The deadline for proposals
for
track sessions, demos, posters, and side meetings is June 30; for pre- or
post-MM workshops it's June 10. Steve suggested presenting the results of the
PIC-SER trial and discussing what's next for PIC-SER. Deke suggested doing a
rich presence trial as in Indianapolis, Honolulu, and Arlington, illustrating
that PIC-SER is a mature version of part of what we did before -- although
PIC-SER doesn't include location services, which is one of the cooler aspects.
If PIC wants to focus on mobility, Penn has some limited resources to put into
architecting the network to accommodate that, e.g. by separating out PIC
traffic.
The group agreed to devote part of the June 9 call to a brainstorming session
on
MM activities.
