about leaving the PALS server where it is and connecting to it from Arlington.

Candace
will document it.
[AI] Joe will prod Larry about finding out the current status of location
technologies in Cisco's WiFi business unit.
[AI] All will continue testing the PALS server.
[AI] Ben T. will send Jamey the Microsoft contact's phone number, and Jamey
will
try to call the contact.
[AI] The group will designate someone to work with Christian Todorov
()
or Mike LaHaye
()
on getting a war
room for the April demo.
[AI] Xiaotao will continue working on SIPc usability; Ben T. and Jeremy will
send Xiaotao their SIPc logs.

call.
[AI] Jamey will enable call-in via the PALS server for the April 1 conference
call.
[AI] On the April 1 call, the group will review the status of contacts with
vendors re clients.
*March 25 conference call attendees*
Jeremy George (chair) - Yale
Joe Rork - Ford
John Fisher - Georgetown
Jamey Hicks - HP
Steve Blair - Penn
Xiaotao Wu - Columbia
Ben Teitelbaum - Internet2
Ben Chinowsky (scribe) - Internet2
*March 25 discussion, with notes on later developments*
The group reviewed action items:
1. Ben T. will get HE pricing on Linux-capable iPAQs.
- It was agreed that there's no need to do this, given that we don't have the
excess money we thought we had. Ben can bring some loaners if desired.
2. Joe will track down pricing for all the headset and handset options, with a
view toward the group being able to draft an order by next week.
- Joe talked to Eutectics; the handsets are $49.95 each with a 20% discount
for
100. They have Linux and Mac drivers. Linux softphones are already integrated.
[AI] Ben T. will order 100 Eutectics IPP 200 handsets; Joe will send Ben T.
the
information he needs to do this.
3. Jamey will consult with the Georgetown people and make a final decision
about leaving the PALS server where it is and connecting to it from Arlington.
- Still to do.
4. Jamey will show Candace the process of calibrating the skiffs, and Candace
will document it.
- Still to do. The skiffs are running.
5. Larry will find out the current status of location technologies in Cisco's
WiFi business unit.
- Larry was not on the call. [AI] Joe will prod Larry about finding out the
current status of location technologies in Cisco's WiFi business unit.
6. Ben T. will follow up with his contact at Nortel; Joe will harass Ben T.
about this as necessary.
- Done, but Nortel has not yet responded.
7. Joe Rork and Ben T. will try some Nortel interoperability testing, running
the client against SARA and SBS.
- Done. Joe connected to ser; the client ran with ser, but presence didn't
work
at all. So, the Nortel client is at least close enough to spec to be able to
make phone calls. Joe observed that this is probably moot anyway, as we
haven't
heard back from Nortel.
8. Jamey will troubleshoot the PALS server and add some generic locations
(e.g. "home", "office").
- Done, and has been running the last few days without problems.
9. All will test the PALS server.
- In process.
10. Jamey will follow up with his contact at Microsoft.
- Done, but Jamey hasn't heard back. [AI] Ben T. will send Jamey the Microsoft
contact's phone number, and Jamey will try to call the contact.
John Fisher was tasked with getting a final answer on a war room for the April
demo, but in email sent March 29, John notes that the right people to ask
about
this are Christian Todorov
()
or Mike LaHaye
().
[AI] The group will designate someone to work with
Christian Todorov
()
or Mike LaHaye
()
on
getting a war room for the April demo.
Ben T. reported that he'd installed SIPc and had problems with it picking up
state from a previously-installed version. Ben also noted that there are other
usability problems with the demo, and that "getting people over the usability
hump" is a priority -- demo participants are at a busy meeting and won't spend
more than ten minutes trying to get stuff to work.
[AI] Xiaotao will work on SIPc usability; Ben T. and Jeremy will send Xiaotao
their SIPc logs.
- Ongoing; see list emails of 3/29-3/31 for details.
[AI] Jamey will troubleshoot the presence portal.
- Ongoing; see list emails of 3/29-3/31 for details.
The group agreed to gather to test the presence portal for an hour on Tuesday,
March 30, starting at 4pm Eastern. This was a success, although only Jeremy
and
Xiaotao participated. Testing produced three action items:
[AI] Xiaotao will update sipc so that there is a drop down menu to set your
location, and if you choose a location it will send a PUBLISH to pals.
- Done 3/31; see Xiaotao's email for details.
[AI] Jamey will fix the ser_ctl program so that a change in location on the
web
server will cause pals to send a NOTIFY to anyone subscribed to your presence
information.
- Done 3/30; see Jamey's email for details.
[AI] Jamey will update the place table with room names for the Crystal City
Marriott.
- Done 3/30; see Jamey's email for details.
Ben T. noted that there will be no public demo room for the April demo. The
group agreed that we nonetheless need some kind of physical center for the
demo, including material printed from the web site, and a poster. Internet2
staff can handle poster production, but the PIC working group has to provide
the content. [AI] Joe will draft poster content for discussion on the April 1
conference call.
[AI] Jamey will enable call-in via the PALS server for the April 1 conference
call. Ben T. noted that enabling PALS call-in does not exclude calling in via
PSTN.
Jamey noted that HP is setting up a SIP.edu site; inbound is working, outbound
isn't yet. They are building support for a bunch of SIP proxies internally
that
will hook up to it. Ben T. noted that this will be the first corporate SIP.edu
site.
