In sipc's installation process, it asks where you want to install to.

Nope. It doesn't ask.

Please check again. When you run 'setup.exe', after 'Customer
Information', it's the 'Destination Folder' screen there is a 'Change'
button, you can click on that button to specify where you want to install
to.

The problem seems to be related to the two different URLs for downloading the
Windows version of sipc. The first URL ended with~xiaotaow/tmp5555/sipc.exe
while the second ends with ~xiaotaow/tmp5555/setup.exe

Mozilla kept wanting to uncompress and execute the "sipc.exe" download and
this was failing. This morning I downloaded the "setup.exe" file and this worked
as expected. I now have sipc running, I called one of my IP phones successfully
and I'm watching people :-).

Thanks,Steve

For sipc data files, sipc will save it to your <HOMEPATH>\.sipc directory.
Usually, it's c:\documents and settings\<username>.
IE and other applications also uses HOMEPATH to save their user datas.

Please change your homedrive and homepath variables. It should not
point to a drive you never use.

Can't this is a site specific configuration issue that is out of my
control. I only have this issue on
my desktop. My laptop doesn't use the share. I'll try sipc on both devices.

license key
sipc:-:2004-06-17:2004-06-17:21d3732964a35460ef98da7055c36864

Thanks!

BTW, you can download latest version at
http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~xiaotaow/tmp5555/setup.exe

The latest version allows users to change its location manually on sipc.

homedrive variables point but I never use this drive. It is a share mounted
on the department fileserver. In my opinion this is not the way I'd like to
see the Windows installer work. Is it possible to change the installer to
prompt for the installation directory?

Also I am now at the point where sipc is asking for a license key.
Can you provide that?

Thanks, Steve

Ok. I'll try this shortly. By the way the .sipc directory does not
get created. In my message I said the debug file doesn't exist.
Actually the c:\documents and settings\<username>\.sipc directory
doesn't exist.

The error message you sent to me showing sipc tried to open a socket.
That means the .sipc has already been created. In fact, if there is no
.sipc directory, you will be asked for license information.
The .sipc directory will be in

c:\.sipc
or
c:\documents and settings\<username>
(please replace <username> to your real XP user name)

Now way man! This file doesn't exist. It is almost as if
sipc.exe doesn't run to completion before producing the error
message. Is anyone else running this release on Windows XP?

Then please remove c:\documents and settings\<username>\.sipc directory
and try again. Please copy sipc.exe to where you have sipc installed
(usually in c:\program files\sipc)

For Windows, the dbg file should be in

c:\documents and settings\<username>\.sipc\sip.dbg
can you check that?
Thanks!

sipc is not including the user part of the SIP URI in the request line

I will fix that now.

The fixed version of sipc is at

http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~xiaotaow/tmp5555/sipc (for linux)
http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~xiaotaow/tmp5555/sipc.exe (for Windows)

Please download and update the sipc file in your sipc installation
directory.

Instead of

PUBLISH sip:hp.com SIP/2.0

it should be:

PUBLISH
sip:
SIP/2.0

I just tested this using the Linux sipc executable downloaded from the
link that you posted.

Thanks,
Jamey
