*Discussion*
Most of the call was devoted to reviewing action items:
1. Joe will find out the lead time we need to buy the Logitech headsets, and
get prices on Bluetooths, behind-the-head headsets, and handsets also.
- Joe found a vendor who can get us the Clarisys handsets for $67.99 each.
They'd also like to sell us USB adapters with jacks for analog headsets,
making
the headsets we have already USB compatible. RIPAND is another option
(USB, $40.00). Analog headsets are around $20. The vendor has everything in
stock; getting a hundred headsets is no problem. They only need a week of lead
time, but Joe wants this decision made by next week at the latest anyway.
There was considerable interest among those on the call in spending part of
the
money on handsets, or even in using all handsets instead of headsets. The
group
also discussed spending part of the $5000 on iPAQs; these would be kept for
use
in future demos, rather than going to demo participants. [AI] Ben T. will get
HE
pricing on Linux-capable iPAQs. [AI] Joe will track down pricing for all the
headset and handset options, with a view toward the group being able to draft
an order by next week.
2. Jamey will consult with the Georgetown people and make a final decision
about leaving the PALS server where it is and connecting to it from Arlington.
- Still to do.
3. We need to get a count of how many static IPs we need.
- It was agreed that we only need one, but we'll ask for five just in case.
4. We need to figure out where to get more switches.
- Internet2 will buy these if they are needed.
5. Jamey will show Candace the process of calibrating the skiffs, and Candace
will document it.
- Still to do.
6. Larry will find out the current status of location technologies in Cisco's
WiFi business unit.
- Still to do.
7. Ben T. will follow up with his contact at Nortel.
- Still to do. Joe will harass Ben T. about this as necessary.
8. Joe Rork and Ben T. will try some Nortel interoperability testing, running
the client against SARA and SBS.
- Still to do.
9. Jeremy will get Joe and Ben the ID info for SBS.
- Done.
10. Jamey and Ben T. will ensure that the PALS server is working properly.
- Jeremy reported that he is unable to reach the server. [AI] Jamey will
troubleshoot the PALS server and add some generic locations (e.g. "home",
"office").
11. All will test the PALS server.
- Still to do.
12. Joe will find a new documentation czar.
- Joe will be the documentation czar. Ben T. suggested asking new UA vendors
to
provide documentation along the lines of the existing documentation.
13. Xiaotao will send Joe an HTML copy of the latest SIPC documentation.
- Moot, as this has been posted. See
http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~xiaotaow/sipc/manual.html
[But, I (Ben C.) get "Access Forbidden" when I try to look at this -- others?]
14. Jamey will send Xiaotao a note on the interface-names bug he found in
SIPC.
- Done.
The group reviewed the status of contacts with various vendors:
- As Steve Blair reported in a March 18 note to the list, Xten will provide
clients for the April demo.
- Queries have been sent to three people at Apple, but none have replied yet.
- [AI] Jamey will follow up with his contact at Microsoft.
- Wave3 is providing a client for the April demo.
- Ben T. talked to Sun. They're doing a lot with SIP; Ben got an overview of
what they're doing and a new contact, who he hasn't heard from yet. It's still
not looking likely that Sun will be able to provide anything for April.
Jeremy reminded the group that there will be a PIC working group meeting in
Arlington; the room is still to be determined.
