No need to apologize, the link you sent had all the info I needed. My
problem was getting tunnel-visioned into the multicast portion and not
thinking about the general network interface metrics.

Split tunneling is enabled already. The bug(s) on Juniper's side are that
it installs a multicast route even though the client is told not to tunnel
multicast over the VPN link, and I believe that the interface speed is
reported at anywhere between 300Mbps and 2Gbps, which is probably why it
gets assigned a metric of 10. So they would need to fix both of those
problems.
