FYI - I spent a little time working with Paul to sort out some
multicast issues. Thought I'd just pass this on ... -------- Original Message --------
Everyone, I am writing today to let everyone know that last evening around 9:15pm, BUCKITV successfully went on to air from a remote location without the use of any microwave, satellite, or other remote video technology! Through the use of OSUnet and our brand new fiber optic backbone installation, we were able to successfully transmit full quality DV video from a camera and laptop computer setup in a Baker Systems Engineering Classroom using Digital Video over Internet Protocol to our master control in Drake Union, output the signal to video, and send it over the air without running any dedicated wiring for video or audio! BUCKITV would like to thank all those involved in the process leading up to this momentous day in our station's history, including the CIO Ilee Rhimes, Deputy CIO Mike Veres, Director of UNITS Bob Corbin, and Chief Research Engineer Bob Dixon. Due to the assistance of these persons and the dedication of the BUCKITV engineering staff, we are now able to broadcast remotely from any location on OSU's campus that has a fast enough data connection. In the future we will be working with the staff of Internet2 and the Internet2 Big Video Working Group on using this technology to send DV quality video over long distances via the Abilene network, for purposes such as going live from I2-enabled schools all over the country. In addition the possibilities of a multicasted national network feed sent to different schools around the country will be explored. BUCKITV hopes to continue to remain on the forefront of IP based video technology. Paul C.
