Hi,

Below is a call for participants for the End-to-End Performance Initiative Measurement Workshop. If know of someone that is working in the area of performance measurement, please pass it along.

Internet2 End-to-End Performance Initiative Measurement Workshop
30-31 January 2002
Arizona State University - Tempe
Tempe, Arizona

In an effort to advance the creation of an end-to-end measurement infrastructure, the Internet2 End-to-End Performance Initiative (E2Epi) will host a Measurement Workshop following the Joint Techs Meeting in Tempe. End-to-end performance involves the entire path, including the perception of the end-user, the applications program, the operating system, the computer hardware, and all portions of the local and wide area networks. Ideally, to obtain true measurement of end-to-end performance, a measurement infrastructure is required that can provide information in all these areas of the path. Initially, only those doing performance research may use the measurement infrastructure, but eventually it should be able to scale its use to allow an end-user or application to query the health of the network to determine the acquired performance or locate a problem on a particular path.

There are many ongoing and planned efforts involving performance measurement on the different portions of the end-to-end path. This workshop will bring together those involved in these efforts so that they may learn what others are doing in the area, and to see if a general coordination can be leveraged to accomplish more than the individual efforts. One goal of the workshop will be to begin work on a definition for Common Performance Data Sets so that it can be implemented by all measurement projects to create a shared common infrastructure among multiple projects. Another might be to define a measurement architecture that can scale to global use.

Attendance at the workshop will be restricted to those actively involved in the area of performance measurement. If you working in this area and would like to attend, please send a description of your work to Russ Hobby .
