Over the last year, we have had a series of excellent guest speakers
and discussions on the regular Thursday SIP.edu Working Group calls.
These discussions have been very valuable, have drawn a large number
of call participants, and have covered a broad array of topics.

To allow Dennis Baron and the SIP.edu Working Group to focus on the
core technical and deployment goals of SIP.edu, these more
broadly-themed talks and discussions will transition to a new
Internet2 VoIP Special Interest Group (SIG) led jointly by:

* Candace Holman, Harvard University,
* Walt Magnussen, Texas A&M University, and
* Garret Yoshimi, University of Hawaii.

The good news is that this transition will be nearly seamless. The
VoIP SIG calls will occupy the same Thursday time slot and conference
bridge as the SIP.edu Working Group calls. On alternate weeks, we'll
have focused SIP.edu project discussions (led by Dennis) and
broadly-themed VoIP SIG discussions (led by Candace, Walt, and
Garret). You may already have noticed this pattern emerging over the
past few weeks.

The Internet2 VoIP SIG succeeds the VoIP Working Group and inherits
its home page (http://voip.internet2.edu/) and mailing list.

and

have been
created as aliases for the
""
mailing list and
should be used for broadly-focused discussions of emerging voice
technologies and strategies.

I am deeply appreciative of Dennis Baron's leadership of the SIP.edu
Working Group. He has not only led the SIP.edu project through its
spectacular expansion, but has organized and hosted a large number of
"SIGgy" discussions on the SIP.edu calls that go above and beyond his
obligations as SIP.edu Working Group chair.

I am also delighted and excited to have the power trio of Candace
Holman, Walt Magnussen, and Garret Yoshimi stepping up to help keep
the every-other-Thursday time slot a lively and fertile forum for the
Internet2 VoIP community.

Thursday is still VoIP day. Keep up the good work, support our
community leaders, and enjoy the last few weeks of Summer!
