SIP.edu Conference Call March 16, 2006
*Attendees*
Dennis Baron, MIT
John Covert, Independent Consultant
Jeff Kuure, Internet 2
Chrstian Schlatter, UNC
Chris Trown, University of Oregon
*Discussion*
Today's call is short, as Dennis is calling from the VON conference
and his audio quality is less than ideal. In the brief discussion,
Dennis mentions that in two weeks he hopes to have representatives from
Berkeley on to discuss their VOIP implementation. He has also extended
an invitation to Cisco to talk about their recent announcement of SIP
support.
John Covert asks about ISN dialing at MIT, and if there has been any
progress. Dennis says that they have converted one of their trunks
from PRI to channelized T1 for ISN access, but realized that they lost
caller ID in the process. They looked at ANI possibilities with the Cisco
gateway, but this didn't work with their 5ESS configuration. Currently
they are back to a model of sending the trunk directly to an Asterisk
box and doing the digit collection there. They may just end up doing
something with voice prompts rather than dial tones.
The next call will be on March 30th.
