No call today - the next is scheduled for Thursday, 8/12 at 2:00EDT.
Please send me any items that you'd like to put on the agenda.

Here are some notes from last week. Dennis

--------

Draft Notes from 7/29/04 SIP.edu Conference Call

Dennis Baron, MIT
William Caban, UPR
Jeremy George, Yale
Cesar Marcondes, UCLA
Ben Teitelbaum, Internet2
Garret Yoshimi, Hawaii

SIP-based Voice Measurement Infrastructure - Cesar Marcondes, UCLA
- Cesar discussed his prior work in Brazil in measuring voice quality
and mapping to MOS. Active and passive monitoring were discussed.
Other interests are in wireless hotspots with SIP and TCP-rate based
protocols to improve QoS.
- There may be privacy issues with passive monitoring if RTP streams
are captured - headers only could be used.
- Testing through to PBX would be of interest - comparing MOS of
SIP-SIP calls vs. SIP-PBX. Dennis is checking to see if MIT has
loopback test lines on its PBX.
- Interest was expressed in researching the network bandwidth
necessary for VoIP - impacts of VAD and variable bit-rate CODECs.
Models could be developed to estimate bandwidth requirements.
- There may be some opportunities to gather data on SIP over
wireless LANs during the PIC WG trials.
Cesar will investigate measurement tools, refine model for active
measurement, and report back the group.

Cesar's slides are at http://mit.edu/sip/sip.edu/internet2_july28th.ppt

SIP.edu Gateway Requirement for Caller ID - Dennis Baron, MIT
Cisco has identified an interface to their SIP gateway group.
During discussions Cisco asked for SIP.edu requirements for gateways
in the area of Caller-ID and SIP. Draft requirements asks for
features to allow for methods of converting ISDN caller-ID to SIP
addressing and vice-versa.
- Dennis will forward the draft to Cisco.
- There may be some synergy in these requirements and the IETF
sip-identity draft. SIP.edu proxies could sip-identity to
authenticate the caller-ID header.

Draft requirements are at
http://mit.edu/sip/sip.edu/draft-sip-edu-gateway.txt

Other Items
- Garret is working on getting Hawaii's gateway up. Need solution for
second proxy with CSPS.
