ok, i empirically determined that one can't set multiple env vars like
i describe below - but i submit this would be a useful feature.  i  
just had
to change several apps to use the new values and i can imagine how this
will only slow transition when apps become affected.  it will freak
out operations and application owners in normal IT settings.
