Between the SAML 2.0 enhancements that might allow for some more advanced
cases and the design enhancements for plugins, and the need to maintain two
code bases, I'd much rather see it for 2.x only.

Caching the tickets will also be much simpler in 2.0, there's already a
storage API and a much better session cache model that could allow for
adding and renewing tickets after the initial login. Mostly untested,
admittedly, but the support is there to add data mid-session, and that's
impossible in the old code.
