All I did was take a fairly un-modified Mac (the one in my office I curse at
to relieve stress) and build it there for testing and sanity checking of the
port. Only Apache 1.3 comes with OS X to my knowledge, so that's all I could
build. It's analagous to why Linux RPMs only include the version that a
particular distribution ships. If there's an option for installing 2.x, I
didn't see it. But then I couldn't figure out how to eject the DVD player
either.
The Solaris package only includes them all because Solaris never used to
include any Apaches, and there tend to be more and weirder regression errors
there than with other Unix variants because I use a different compiler and
well, it's Solaris.
I was hoping that if people wanted to use the Mac long term that somebody
would step up and do a package of some sort. I investigated it briefly but
it was clearly more work than I had time for.

PS. I saw the daemon thing you posted, I just haven't had a chance to look
at it or check it in. But I usually will do that if people post useful
scripts so that they're available in the tarball.
