Sorry for bothering you... It turns out the lighttpd on the other server
was a different version than mine. It seems that 1.4.10 gives the error
I described and the latest stable 1.4.13 does not... For some unknown
reason... It figures. It was the last thing I checked.

By the way this in on a Xeon 2.8, gcc 4.1.
