Subject: Re: Clarification on the endorsed xml libraries
The xml-related jar files included with the Shibboleth IdP 1.3c are just the latest release of Apache XercesJ as of the time we cut our own release. The Shibboleth IdP uses the JAXP API, so it will "run" under JDK 1.5 with the default libraries. The problem, however, is that those libraries contained a memory leak as of the time of our release. Our solution for the average user was to supply a library that we felt would work reliably. Beyond this, feel free to use whatever JAXP library works for you...

Walter,
We are using Shibboleth in JBoss 4.0.2 with JDK 1.5. We still seem to need the endorsed XML libraries for Shibboleth to run properly. Can you please provide some concrete answers for:
(1) Who has provided these libraries?
(2) What is different between these and the default ones that come with JDK 1.5?
The reason why I ask: Our client's web app breaks when we use these jar files. They need some concrete answers before they can comfortably change their code to work with these libraries.
Your answers to these will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
