Atlassian, the company responsible for JIRA, has an interesting open
source security framework called Seraph that provides a nice level of
abstraction between application and the authn/authz infrastructure. It
appears to be flexible enough to allow a variety style of authn/authz
modules. Perhaps the Sakai/uPortal architects would be interested in
taking a look at it?

Scott: Would this be of interest for the Internet2 MACE group as a
complementry piece to Shib, Signet, and WebISO projects?
