where the name is yet a third thing.....

What you call it locally and where you get it from are independent.

again, because of the multi-fed question, I'd suggest including the
fed name in the name for the IQ sites file.....

Well, I included it by inference, it's in the URL. Locally, you use whatever
you want...

yea, I know, the local name and the name used on the IQ server are independent.... flexibility is oftentimes a good thing

however, I'd suggest that establishing a local practice that uses a different local name is an invitation to confusion, and potential disaster.... the person who installed shib will understand what they did... but 18 months later some run of the mill sysadmin will be maintaining it and will be bringing a different skill set to the situation.

if the file is called sites-IQ-1.2 on the server, and has the same name locally, then it should be abundantly clear, to even the casual reader of the config files, what's going on. And, I'd argue, our examples would be easier to understand. And, since sites are likely to blindly copy what we put in our examples (yea, I know, they're not supposed to.... but 99% of them will....).....

I'm just suggesting that the examples should a) NOT demonstrate all the flexibility, and b) lead people toward good practice......
