I was playing with 3.3 briefly, just long enough to confirm that a large
code rewrite will be needed to deal with the hole they blew in the
basic_string class in the name of standards. ;-(
So 3.2.1 appears to be the best choice at this point.
I was going to try rebuilding mysql and trying to fool it into building a
shared library by tweaking the makefile, so I'll try and do that later
today. I'm fairly certain the static library is the root cause.
