I've patched in a reimplementation of the code that writes out the XML from
the shar that seems to properly preserve UTF8
characters, but so far it's crashing Apache on Solaris, so things might not
work out of cvs right now.

I'll be looking into it further by tomorrow.

Derek, since I don't have a copy of all this new code installed on Linux yet,
if you have a chance to rebuild and try it, let me
know what gdb says (assuming it crashes on you).
