Just a few reminders for the Shibboleth training that will kick off next week:

 

• Slack is the primary place to communicate and participate in the class. I see that most of you are already there and active. If not, please let me know if you need me to resend you the invite.
• Canvas is where you’ll find all of the content. The modules will automatically unlock as the class progresses.
• Although you’ll find this quick survey as an assignment in Canvas, we’d love to learn about your Shibboleth experience and hopes and dreams for this class. If you could fill it out before we meet on Monday afternoon, that would be amazing. 😊
• Last but not least, if you are missing any of the calendar invites for next week (one per day Monday – Friday at 2:00 ET) please let me know!

You are receiving this note because you registered for the virtual InCommon Shibboleth Training Workshop, November 15 - 19, 2021. Here is some important information to make your experience productive and enjoyable. 

 

 

Access to Content

This training workshop’s content is hosted in Canvas and is primarily self-paced. 

 

You should have received an email with instructions on logging into the Internet2 IAM system, which will enable access to Canvas. Initially, you will only be able to see the course home page. We schedule module releases to keep the course conversation on schedule for all participants, so check in nightly at 8:00 pm ET for module releases!

 

Please let us know if you run into any problems with the process.

 

Key Access Dates:

Below is a list of access dates and activities:

 

No later than November 8th:

• Access to a dedicated Slack channel for the course (feel free to begin chatting right away!). Look for your invitation in your email.
• Follow the Canvas login instructions from above so we can add you to the class prior to the first day.

 

Monday, November 15th

• Access to course materials
• Access to virtual machine
• Begin self-paced learning in modules 0 and 1
• Attend a class welcome from 2:00 - 3:00 ET

 

Tuesday, November 16 - Friday November 19 

• Check the syllabus for work to complete before virtual office hours. 
• NOTE: modules will automatically unlock each day bright and early!
• Attend virtual office hours with the instructors daily from 2:00 - 4:00 ET

 

Friday, December 10

• Access to VM terminates

 

Friday, February 11

• Access to Canvas course materials terminates
• Dedicated Slack channel for the course terminates

 

Collaboration Tools:

 

Slack 

You will receive an invitation to join the class’s dedicated Slack channel. This is our primary mode of communication and our instructors watch this channel closely. Please feel free to ask questions there, provide course feedback, or share a picture of your lunch. The options are endless!

 

Office Hours

This course is primarily self-paced but please know that you’re never alone. In addition to our Slack channel, join us on Monday, November 15th at 2:00 pm ET to meet our instructors and one another. Our instructors will host office hours daily on Tuesday - Friday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm ET. Please come prepared to discuss the assignments as scheduled in the course syllabus and ask any and all of your questions! Look for a calendar invitation that includes the link to the Zoom session (or access it on the course homepage in Canvas) for each of these sessions!
