REN Routing Security

Colleagues,

 

Please join me in welcoming Anita Nikolich as a consultant for Internet2 working on our project this year to improve interdomain routing security for Internet2 and the community.   In this role, Anita will assist Internet2 and the R&E network community with developing a secure routing strategy and implementation plans including:

• Foster on-going technical conversations on the viability of implementing secure routing practices (including RPKI, MANRS and techniques such as maintaining accurate IRR data) for the R&E community by soliciting specific feedback on existing best practices in secure routing already in place by Internet2 members and partners; collecting community input on optimal technical methods desired to achieve secure routing; and creating a dialog with Internet2 technical leaders on the feasibility of a community-led effort to collectively put a suite of practices and tools in place.
• Provide an assessment of technical, financial, legal and organizational barriers to successful implementation at a large scale and identify key opportunities in the secure routing space.
• In concert with Internet2 technical and management staff, and with the input of Internet2 community leaders, develop a collective 1-2 year strategy for secure routing and RPKI implementation, ensuring that the benefits of implementation of such a project are outlined at level that is understandable by a non-technical audience.

Previously Anita has been in several roles including Program Director for Cybersecurity in the Division of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure at the National Science Foundation, Executive Director of Infrastructure at the University of Chicago, in private industry, and served in the military.  This fall she will be joining the Illinois Institute of Technology as Research Faculty.
