Hey all…

 

Even though 5.2 is still fresh out of the oven, we wanted to give a heads up about an upcoming change in the next feature release.  In perfSONAR 5.3, we will be retiring  the last vestiges of support for Esmond.  This will include:

 

• Removal and disabling of pScheduler’s Esmond archiver.  As we’ve done previously, the archiver will no longer be part of the default installation of the test point or any other bundles that include pScheduler.  For systems which already have the archiver installed, the final upgrade will render it inert, meaning that any task using it will be rejected.

 

• Discontinuation of Elmond.  Elmond is the compatibility layer we wrote to allow MaDDash and other applications to query the new OpenSearch-based archive with an Esmond-compatible API.  Existing installations of Elmond will continue to function but it will not be available for new installations and will not be supported by the development team.

 

This is not happening immediately; we expect to release 5.3 after the first of next year.  At that point, Esmond will have been gone for almost three years.   If you are still using Esmond, please start making plans to change to the OpenSearch-based archive.  If you are still using Elmond, please start making plans to update applications that use it to query OpenSearch.
