Hi, ALL.
I'm Minseok Jang from KREONET/KISTI, Korea.
I'm preparing to procure 4 servers for network tests for 200GbE, 400GbE or
more. The budget is within 9K dollars per server.
Currently, I have two 200G machines, it has Intel Xeon Gold 6300 series CPU,
and I performed iperf tests with iperf 3.17.1 and MTU 9000. It shows 57Gbps
on single stream and 180Gbps on 6 streams - https://wiki.kreonet.net/x/yQEPD
and I want more powerful machines.
I found two benchmarks results and one tech article.
1) AMD Ryzen 9 7950X (base 4.5GHz, turbo 5.7GHz)- 38Gbps on single thread,
175 Gbps on 8 threads via ethr tcp test-

2) Intel Core i9-13900K (base 3.0GHz, turbo 5.8GHz on P-core)- 56Gbps on
single thread, 251Gbps on 8 threads via ether tcp test-
https://openbenchmarking.org/result/2307240-PTS-DLDA630942#r-8c07f3248a7d39583e719b8266b275855e5b42e0
3) (KeySight tech article) Intel Xeon Platinum 8370C (32C 64T, base 2.80
GHz), two ConnectX-6 200G- 400GbE Aggregated traffic via packet generators
based on DPDK on 8 VMs-
https://www.keysight.com/blogs/en/tech/traf-gen/2022/11/16/keysight-ixnetwork-ve-achieves-400-gbps-throughput-with-dpdk-performance-acceleration
Currently, the fastest CPU is Intel i9 14900KS, its turbo clock is 6.2 GHz
but it is desktop CPU and it has temperature issues. AMD EPYC 4564P's turbo
clock is 5.7 GHz, but its desktop version - AMD Ryzen 9 7950X shows lower
performance than Intel Core i9-13900K that I mentioned above.
Is AMD EPYC 4564P good for perfSONAR? Is many core machine good for the
future research, like KeySight case? Is it good for buy 100GbE NVMe machines
to data transfer test rather than 200GbE or 400GbE perfSONAR for future
research and collaboration? If it were you, what machines would you buy for 4
servers in 36K dollars?
Please, give me any comments.
Best Regards.
Minseok Jang
