Hi,

A couple scenarios:

1. If the measurement host has an archive(s) defined in a local configuration file in /etc/perfsonar/psconfig/archives.d, the it will use those. For example, when you install the perfsonar-toolkit package, it places a local archive definition in that directory. Any psconfig file you point at, including ones that do not have archives, will still have the results stored in the local archive. This is the primary reason it is optional. This makes sense in cases where the archive definition contains API key or password info you don’t want to publish (there are other options in this case as well such as using jq transform scripts for the sensitive pieces). It also makes sense when every measurement host has its own local archive it knows how to write to and don’t want to manage centrally. The downside is that you can’t generate a MaDDash config, since it won’t know what archive to query if it is not in the pSConfig template.

2. You don't have any archive defined locally, so your results don’t get archived. I don’t know of anyone that does this, but you could still get the results out of pscheduler in theory. I believe it keeps something like 7 days of results IIRC.

Hope that helps,
Andy

According to the documentation at https://docs.perfsonar.net/psconfig_templates_intro.html, the archives template variable is optional.

What is the behavior for tests scheduled via a psconfig template when no archive objects are specified?  What happens to the test results?

Thanks in advance.
