Hi All,

I've bravely ordered myself a 100G test node (NOT a DTN). Thanks to Chris @ AARNet for his suggestions. Any mistakes are my own.
  • Supermicro 5018R-MR based around
  • Supermicro X10SRi-F motherboard
  • 1 x Intel E5-1630 v4 3.7GHz 4 cores
  • Memory : 64G
  • Mellanox ConnectX-5 DP QSFP28
I'm waiting for it to arrive, and then we'll see what I can make it do.

HI Szymon, Nathan, and All

I'm in pretty much the same place that Nathan is in. I'm looking to stand up a 100G test node (*not* a DTN, at least not today), and I'd love to hear from anyone who has built one recently.

I've followed the link that Szymon sent, and crawled through fasterdata.es,net as well. The examples I've found seem to date from ~2016 and look like
  • Supermicro X10DRi OR
  • SuperMicro X9DRi-F
  • CPU: 2 x Intel(R) Xeon Ivy Bridge E5-2643V2 3.5GHz 6 Cores (Total 12 Cores)
  • Memory: 96G ( (12) 8GB DDR3-1866MHz RAM ECC/REG  )
  • Mellanox MCX455A-ECAT
But that's a 2014/2012 motherboard, and a 2014 CPU. And maybe the Connect X4 has now been replaced by the X5?

I'd love to hear from anyone who has built a 100G recently, because I'd hate to overlook something new.

Thanks,
pg.

Hi All,

Our University is standing up a 100gbit network and I am researching some 100gbit perfsonar node builds for internal testing. Does anyone have any recent builds and/or quotes I could crowdsource? I was going to base our initial build on one of our recent (2 years old) HPC cluster compute nodes, 28 core Xeon E5-2680, 128gb RAM, m.2 or nvme drive. I’d like to look at a build someone may already be running in a lab environment and how they feel about the performance- any preferred component vendors or configuration gotchas?

Hi Nathan,

Befor our users share their examples there are some at https://docs.perfsonar.net/deployment_examples.html from our project partners.

Best regards
