I am not using the SYS-E300-8D for PS, but I do love it for server usage. I came here to recommend it when I saw the title of the thread. I don't see why it wouldn't make a perfect PS box.

Thank you!  That does look promising as well.  If we do pick one of the E300-8Ds to test, I will let the mailing list know how that goes.

Greetings Mike,

We like small and thrifty servers here as well. While my group doesn’t have direct experience with the Supermicro SYS-E300-8D we do use the Supermicro SDR-5019S-L (a 1RU, half-depth, rack-mounted server) in our deployments. The website price comes out to $1,493 USD with the dual port 10Gb/s SFP+ card, but you may get better pricing from your educational vendors.

If you do decide to test one of the Supermicro SYS-E300-8D, I’d be interested to hear how it tests.

Cheers,

So we’ve been looking around for Intel NUC type devices, but that support 10G.  We want them to be Perfsonar nodes, but we will also be using them for some OOB stuff.  I did a lot of poking around and this seems to be the only possible solution:  https://www.amazon.com/d/Computer-Servers/Supermicro-SYS-E300-8D-Intel-D-1518-Server/B01M0VTV3E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544019695&sr=8-1&keywords=SuperServer+E300-8D

Anyone have any experience with this box as a test node?  The amount of 1G options is crazy, but we really want to do 10G.  Or did anyone else have any luck with certain devices they could share details about?  I did find some “no name” customizable solutions but want to try to stay away from those because we may not have a way to order from those types of sites.  This one I can at least get from Amazon.  Would like to keep the cost down as well, this mini server, one loaded with RAM and a hard drive, would be upwards of $1000.  Trying to keep around that price point or below.

Thanks
