Hi Antoine,
So, I was trying to upgrading the Debian SO from 7 to 9.
These servers are ours MonIPE servers that I were trying to check if it would be possible to upgrade the system and use the perfsonar bundle.
The perfsonar packages that I was trying to install were:
- numactl
- snmpd
- pps-tools
- setserial
- stress-ng
- perfsonar-testpoint
- unattended-upgrades
- perfsonar-toolkit-servicewatcher
- perfsonar-toolkit-ntp
- perfsonar-toolkit-security
- perfsonar-toolkit-sysctl
- snmpd
- pps-tools
- setserial
- stress-ng
- perfsonar-testpoint
- unattended-upgrades
- perfsonar-toolkit-servicewatcher
- perfsonar-toolkit-ntp
- perfsonar-toolkit-security
- perfsonar-toolkit-sysctl
The NTP configuration is as follows:
# cat /etc/ntp.conf
--
# /etc/ntp.conf, configuration for NTP
# by default act only as a basic NTP client
restrict -4 default nomodify nopeer noquery notrap
restrict -6 default nomodify nopeer noquery notrap
# allow NTP messages from the loopback address, useful for debugging
restrict 127.0.0.1
restrict ::1
logfile /var/log/ntpd
driftfile /var/lib/ntp/ntp.drift
statsdir /var/lib/ntp/

The strange thing is that the installation does not complete its execution. It stucks for hours.
Could it be some compatibility problem by doing "apt-get dist-upgrade" or something like that?

Hi Murilo,
Can you tell us a bit more about your setup? Are you installing this packet as an additional one to the perfsonar-testpoint bundle or as part of the perfsonar-toolkit?
Do you manage the list of NTP servers in /etc/ntp.conf in some other automated ways with some configuration management tools? How many servers do you currently have listed in the ntp.conf file? Can you check you have at least 4 reachable NTP servers listed there? And by reachable, I should probably say 'pingable'.
Thanks,
Antoine.

Could it be that UDP port 123 used by NTP is somehow blocked on
your network?
