However, it is an IBM power 8 with a ppc64 architecture. Would it be possible to run Perfsonar on it? 

 

For perfSONAR to be supported on a new-to-us architecture, it has to have primary support from one of the distributions we build for and there has to be sufficient demand from the users for it.  Right now we support Intel and have experimental ARM support.

 

Most of perfSONAR would probably work just fine on PPC, but you could buy a lot of commodity x86 hardware for the initial and ongoing costs of porting, validating and maintaining it.
