One last follow up, in case others don't read the new docs too...

This web site gave me the answer to my problem:

Essentially, bring up a basic Centos 6.8 server, do what ever is needed 
to get any special hardware working, then simply 'yum install 
perfsonar-toolkit' and you've got what you need.  (you'll need the I2 
GPG key and repo file too)
