DON'T fall into the trap of celebrating New Year's 2017 one second early. You'll never live it down.

Work with your vendors and/or owner's manuals to make sure your GPS/CDMA/WWV/Cesium/Rubidium/Hydrogen MASER, etc keeps good time of day over the coming leap second, December 31, 2016, at 11:59:60 PM, GMT.

The leap second insertion will take place at 23:59:59 UTC on December 31, 2016.  A leap second is an extra second (23:59:60) that is periodically inserted into the UTC time scale to keep it in alignment with the Earth's rotation.  This means your device may be off by 1 second after December 31.  To prevent that from happening, please read this bulletin for instructions:
