Hi Ivan,

Thank you for the answers!

I guess I would want to make a separate script that will automatically delete data that are already sent to the archive and free up some space periodically, to make sure that the box doesn’t run out off space and hang. I am not sure if practice this is standard in general, but seems necessary, even for non-low-cost perfsonar boxes that use a central archive.

Thanks,
Joon

Hi Joon,

1. Is this necessary even if I am going to use a separate central archive to store results? I assume local results will only be stored temporarily before the box sends it to the central archive (or Measurement Archive), so storage won’t be a big issue. Is this not the case?

You still need storage even if you have a central archive configured. Data from measurements are collected locally and then sent to the measurement archive.

2. If I still need storage even I have a central archive, does this mean I should have created a partition which is not “/“ before installing fedora and extending the root partition to fill up the microSD media?

3. Assume that I made a separate partition to this, how do you configure the perfSONAR to store the results in this new partition? Where is the configuration file to do this, and how to do it?

You need in the regular_testing.conf to have (please customize accordingly)
test_result_directory /var/lib/perfsonar/regular_testing

Best regard,
Ivan

Subject: [perfsonar-user] perfSONAR with Cubox (perfCube)

Hello,

I am in the process of making a perfCube box, which we will mainly just use for latency measurements between buildings on campus. I am following this instruction:
https://goo.gl/6ReAW6

I have several questions on this.

At the end of the page, it states:
"First, create a directory for use perfSONAR results to be stored. If using the default Fedora image, make sure that this IS NOT on the “/” partition, as if this fills up, it can lock up the host. The perfCube image has plenty of space in “/”, so this is not an issue.”

I have a Cubox with 8GB of storage, so I cannot use the pre-made image, which seems to require 16GB (as stated in the first page: "The perfCube image requires a 16G microSD or larger, while the generic fedora image only requires a 4G microSD or larger.”)

1. Is this necessary even if I am going to use a separate central archive to store results? I assume local results will only be stored temporarily before the box sends it to the central archive (or Measurement Archive), so storage won’t be a big issue. Is this not the case?

Thanks,
