In a high performance computing context the current Intel haswell stuff is driving 40Gbps interfaces so servers that can handle 10Gbps should not be particularly hard to find.

For commercal/biotech clients I've recently helped purchase HP branded server hardware for both perfSONAR use as well as to drive our data transfer nodes running Globus Connect server. If you want to drop me a line off-list I can share general info about the hardware we used on that project.

Note that we did not get guarantees from the vendor though. We have been able to drive both the perfSONAR and the data xfer nodes close to what we'd expect to be their real world limits before heroic host and network tuning is done. Our environment has firewalls and amazon direct connect in the mix so there are a lot of moving parts that affect real world throughput.

Happy to share info off list. I also think that the perfsonar/ESNET/I2 people are somewhat constrained in being able to mention brands and vendors -- they can't really be seen to be picking favorites etc.

Regards,
Chris

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations they could make for hardware that does 10Gbps throughput testing? I have been having trouble finding a vendor that will guarantee or at least show me a bench mark that a particular server can in fact achieve 10Gbps of throughput. Thanks!

Thank you and have a great day!
