Hi Peter;

I suppose the best place to start would be with the apache logs 
(/var/log/httpd/ssl_error_log or /var/log/httpd/error_log).  Those may give a 
clue to why there is a timeout.  Other good things to check would be to see 
if the machine is just generally wedged (e.g. disk out of space, hardware 
errors in dmesg, etc.).
