You should only install the java-compat package if you are using the
java RPM from the sun website.

The only reason the java-compat package is needed is because the sun
java RPM sucks big time, the java-compat package makes it suck a little
bit less.

So; if people have a dependency in their package on java-*-sun-compat
they should remove it, because when your RPM based distro has good java
rpm packages you don't wont to install the compat stuff.
