Yes this is possible, although we are struggling with the ramifications
of what to do with the subject namespace. For example if you did what
you are describing:

<metadata>
<?:subject />
<eventType>1</eventType>
<eventType>2</eventType>
<eventType>3</eventType>
</metadata>

We normally match the namespace of the subject to that of the eventType,
but with multiple eventTypes this is harder. The current 'working'
solution is to use multiple metadata blocks that basically say the same
exact thing, but have different subject namespaces. This (at least last
time I checked) makes the visualization tools happy, although eventually
they should not really make assumptions based on subject namespace and
rely solely on what the eventTypes say.

Ideally the tool that did the collection (i.e. SNMP) should probably be
the encoded subject, and the characteristic items (netutil, neterr,
etc.) should only be used to re-classify via the eventType. I am open to
discussion on this (Jeff and I have talked about this numerous times),
especially on the subject of how the visualization tools will behave in
the future.
