please find enclosed a version of the pinger schema without dependence on the ping schema - as per requested.
i still need to know about whether the <select:parameter/> can or even should be used to interrogate the contents of the <nmwg:datum/> elements. if i can, for example to request all pinger xml's results with meanRtt < 5.0 then i have no need to have the pinger statistical results in the metadata block.
the other question is whether pinger should in fact be just a transformation service, rather than a MA or MP. such that it would know about Ping MA's and basically proxy requests. however, it would probably need to maintain it's own local cache for speed purposes - which in effect would make itself an MA... does this make sense?
