Hi All,

I've been looking a little closer at the group permissions functionality in bugzilla. It is pretty ad-hoc, and difficult to maintain.

Also, Loukik is currently re-organizing the classifications. This is a function that probably should be centralized - unfortunately, it looks like bugzilla uses the exact same permission bit for editing versions of a given product.

I've come up with a trade-off solution. Hopefully this is agreeable for the group. I have created a new bugzilla group called 'Admin-Products'. The users in this group have the ability to modify the products.

Initially, I've put the following users in this group:

These specific users have also been given the permission bit so they can allow others in this group as they see fit.

Additionally, all the users that are in the 'admin' group can of course also modify products:

I'm happy to add others into either one of these groups - I just don't want to have to go to each and every user and try and decide who needs what access. (Specific responsibilities come with being added to the second group - and I'm more than happy to add individuals willing to assume some of those responsibilities.)

I believe it makes the most sense to have the Release Management team control versions and products. That is why I basically added the main part of the release management team to the Admin-Products group. But, as I said - I also gave each of the current users of that group the ability to add others as they see fit.

So, if anyone needs to modify version numbers of a product, I suggest filing a bug report to the Release Management product. :) They can either modify the product for you, or add you to this group. Whatever makes the most sense.

jeff
