Hi Roman,

Yes, this is one way to do the installation...we should discuss it in detail during the conf. call today..Luis, can you please add this point to the agenda as well?

Even with this kind of downloading and installing, I think we will still need a directory structure..the only difference is that the sub-directories for each service inside the perfsonar-1.1 directory will be created during installation...

Right, so no need to specify directory structures or names. The envelope script will unpack services (then we will have directories) and call installation procedures of each service. Simple.

umm.. This proposal definitely reduces the size of the distribution. I think so because the biggest part of each service is the library directory..and if we have 3 services there will contain duplicates of the library directory within themselves, the distribution size will go high..
I don't know if I understand you correctly. I don't see the problem in duplication you mentioned. In my proposal I treat each service as a separate application (I don't care if they have the same set of libraries). The envelope script downloads tar files of services, unpackes them and starts installation procedures. So the bundle is just a script with a list of certain services (certain versions).

so, yeah, I agree with your proposal to download the tar file from our repository..

The bundle could be just a script which downloads tar files of services, unpack them and run their installation procedures. No need to create such directory structure in advance. Installation script of each service will ask for the installation directory so it's up to a user where to install services (under one main directory or different directories).
