perfsonar development work

Hi all,

Please find below a short summary from the perfSONAR visualisation
tools presentation at DFN Betriebstagung (meeting for network
engineers from DFN member institutions).

On Tuesday, Stephan and I gave an overview of perfSONAR focusing
on the visualisation tools being offered. On Wednesday, we used
updated material from the Cambridge meeting to give instructions
how to try out our tools. The session was attended by around 40
people (more than we had expected as 22 had registered so that
our 30 handouts were not sufficient). We splitted the session into
45 minutes tool demo and another 45 minutes for experiments. As we
noticed that quite a lot of participants did not have notebooks
we decided to continue with the demo also in the second half and
showed some interesting points mentioned in the handout. Thanks to
the work of Danijel we could already show the new GUI of
VisualperfSONAR including two example routes.

The direct feedback was a bit weak. One participant wanted to know
when information about connections from Germany to Austria will
become available. Another participant recommended to consider a
regional network in Baden-Württemberg for perfSONAR deployment. Some
feedback for perfSONARUI and VisualperfSONAR could be collected
which I just sent to the tool developers.

In November a four page article about perfSONAR will appear in the
DFN member magazine.
