I have a request for developers when they submit changes into svn.
After having been out of touch for two weeks... I can tell you that trying to figure out what has been happening in the code is somewhat challenging. The log messages are too cryptic.
They often give specific information as to what is being changed, but that is not really the information needed in the log message. The diff pretty much tells me that information.
The information needed in the 'log' message is "why". I'm not asking that developers turn this into a novel, but the information that needs to be in the log message is the information that tells others "why" you are making the change you are making. We can read the diffs to determine "what" was changed. But, that does not tell us the information that is needed to understand the change.
Thanks,
jeff
