jq is a scripting language that brings much of the power of programs like sed and awk to processing _javascript_ Object Notation (JSON) data.  The underlying library has been embedded into various parts of perfSONAR and can be used to transform or make decisions about data being handled by the system such as task requests and measurement results.  This gives administrators and end users the ability to make perfSONAR behave in very sophisticated ways without having to modify the software or, in some cases, develop and install specialized plug-ins.

 

Also available as a command-line tool, jq is useful for processing JSON data outside of perfSONAR.

 

On Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. EST, please join the perfSONAR team for an on-line tutorial session covering these topics:

 

• Brief introduction to JSON
• Tutorial covering jq and its major features
• Overview of where jq fits into perfSONAR and how it can be used.

 

This material should be considered foundation for future tutorials on the pScheduler limit system and use of its archiver plugins.
