Greetings,

I just wanted to give a brief update on where we are with the ONOS project. (And, my apologies, this note should have come sooner.)

The ONOS on Intenret2 demo came together just in time for the Global Summit. Afterwards, we took the slice down and continued to test and experiment. It took a lot longer than planned, and we had to work through some network issues, but we got the slice back up and working just in time for the Open Networking Summit.

The demo worked great at the Open Networking Summit. There was a lot of great buzz around the demo as it was really the only production ONOS deployment at the show. We have since taken the slice down to avoid some challenges with the deployment.

All these demos were done using ONOS - Avocet, but the developers of ONOS are now on their third release, ONOS - Cardinal, which hopefully addresses many of the issues we ran into.

Our plan going forward is to test ONOS - Cardinal in the lab and a simulated mininet environment over the next few weeks. When we're ready, we'll re-enable the ONOS slice, hopefully with ONOS - Cardinal installed. We're aiming to show the effort at SIGCOMM in August and again at Tech-X. However, by Tech-X I'm hoping we've gotten far enough to have live production traffic (of a limited nature) running over the slice.

I'm planning to propose that we present on the demo and what we learned at an upcoming SDN WG call.

I'd like to propose we start having some regular conversations about this prototype service as we go forward.

Would next Tuesday at 3 PM ET work for everyone? (Just trying a time.) If it doesn't, I'll create a doodle poll.
