Here are the notes from today’s call:
- Agenda Bash - Update on peering and I2PX Jeff attended NANOG in Charlotte last week along with Adair and a few other people from I2 Met with Microsoft At dual 100g connections in 7 different metros Migrating to new routers in 1 location Were curious to know if I2 was interested in hosting their caching I2 had typically avoided this due to cost of colo, so passing this along to regionals They now offer an image that you can install on your own hardware Met with Amazon Amazon is decommissioning their 10g connections with other networks I2 is in discussions on replacing existing 10g with a minimum of 100g I2 is looking at migrating Amazon out of the R&E vrf Met with ByteDance (parent company of TikTok) Considering the addition of direct peering This would grant access to TikTok ByteDance has recently expanded into a number of US peering locations Met with Zayo Zayo is decommissioning their 10g connections with other networks I2 is in discussions on replacing existing 10g with a minimum of 100g Concerns with peering with ByteDance Some regionals have had internal discussions and decided to avoid direct peering due to various political and other factors I2 is aware of these concerns ByteDance has invested significant resources in moving their resources in-house (away from external cloud providers) Amazon is currently the only NET+ providers in both R&E and I2PX There are several that still need to be moved from R&E to I2PX - Network Weather Update – Trends and Coming Events No significant updates - Internet2 Network Updates Steve is working on some data for CommEx Jeff expects to be more focused on border router best practices, edge peering, and training/tutorial resources over this coming year - Campus border route policy best practices Dave Farmer is still working on this - Other business No other business
