1. Nothing additional

Jeff Bartig/Steve Wallace: Will be hosting a workshop on BGP Route Policy and RPKI at Community Exchange in Atlanta in May.  Looking for feedback from this group on topics.

1. ½ day workshop on developing good route policy at your network border
2. Focusing on RPKI-ROV. 
3. Another aspect is how routes are being advertised to commercial networks and R&E network and how RE participants are prioritizing advertisements to steer traffic towards R&E networks.
4. Hoping to get input from the SIG on what else could be included in this workshop.
5. It has been 20 years since we last discussed this and there are many new people/campuses who might benefit from this discussion.
6. Discussion:

1. Steve Schallen/Iowa State: E-sports/gaming.  Who would they need to be talking to for optimal peering?
2. SIP trunking service connectivity.
3. How to manage own BGP?
4. Discussion of IA state/GPN as an example.
5. Localpref/prepending/other ways to influence routing out- and in-bound.
6. Eyeballs vs. elephant vs. latency-sensitive traffic and how to handle each.
7. Don’t assume that historically common best practices are actually known today.  It is important to level-set the community on best practices.
8. ISP-owned address space 
9. How to delete a ROA

Steve Wallace: In the future, ARIN will do key management for you and will auto-renew ROAs.  Steve will get info on exactly when this will occur.

3. Update on peering and I2PX

1. Not much recent activity in new peerings.  
2. However, Jeff has had many conversations with larger peers and have a lot of I2PX capacity upgrades in progress, so expect updates in the near future.

4. Network Weather Update – Trends and Coming Events

1. Peerings today are generally of sufficient size that this is not a factor these days
2. Concern with peers has now shifted instead to redundancy

5. Internet2 Network Updates

1. L2/3: things are stable.  Looking to test out IOSXR 7.9.x, currently running 7.3.3.
2. Working on replacing AOC optical cables that were used on 400G backbone.  Were used for cost savings but they have proven problematic.  Will be replacing with optics and patch cables.
3. R&E international – MAN LAN and WIX are currently qfx 10k2.  Strong interest in 400G interface capability.  Looking at replacing with Arista boxes that I2 already has in inventory.

1. Work ongoing for config automation for above switches on NSO.
2. Summer migration likely.

4. JoAnne: L1 update.  Investigating using Bright optics, which is a coherent modem in QSFP pluggable form-factor.  Eliminates complexity by allowing direct router-router connectivity without the need for MUXponders.
