Notes from 3/21 NTAC Peering & Routing SIG call

  1. Agenda Bash
  1. Steve Wallace
  1. I2 turned up PRKI ROV on 3/16 for i2px and r&e.
  2. Facing all peers except one corner case.
  3. Mostly uneventful.
  4. Days are counting down on reduced fees for Legacy RSAs.
  1. Steve is more than willing to help with webinars/etc, whatever would be most helpful for your institution
  2. To date, uptake is still slow.
Update on peering and I2PX
  1. Added new peers to I2PX.  Cato Networks, Rise broadband.
  2. Added peering at packet clearinghouse
  3. Added peering with digital ocean
  4. Existing peers: moved from public peering with twitch to 100g private in Chicago.  Working on a second at Ashburn.
  5. Farmer: mentioned issues with ServiceNow that we got fixed?  ServiceNow has I2 peerings (via net+).  Discovered that east coast region traffic from SN was transiting their network coast-to-coast.  Worked with SN to make peering happen at appropriate coast.  ~40ms improvement!
  6. Working to improve peering with Wasabi, (10G at Ashburn and LA, congested) but having difficulties understanding
Network Weather Update – Trends and Coming Events
  1. March Madness but no reported issues this year so far.  Capacity seems to be sufficient, unlike in years past.
Internet2 Network Updates
  1. James Deaton has joined as VP of Network Services.
  2. Steve Wallace: ran a report that looked for routes in the rest of the inet that had covering routes – eg, more specific routes that would never transit I2.  More than 500 routes.  Many are DDoS scrubbing services.  Some were from an I2 connector leftover from pandemic days when zoom had peering issues with I2.
Any other business?
  1. Campus discussion
