Dear Connectors and Network Members,
On behalf of Internet2 Network Services, the Quilt and the Internet2 Security Working Group, I am pleased to announce that on Monday, December 14, 2:30-3:30 ET, we will have a webinar led by Chris Beal, MCNC. Chris will talk about the ways that MCNC handles DDoS attacks. Below is more detail on Chris’ talk followed by the call details.  Let me know what questions you have and we look forward to hearing you on the call.

Title of Presentation
DDoS Threat Report
Insights from a state-wide regional network provider on finding, fighting, and living with DDoS attacks

Abstract
The last three years have seen a dramatic surge in the effective use of DDoS as a weapon of cyber attack.  No longer only the domain of elite attackers, today’s DDoS attacks can be easily launched by those with limited technical skills, and the results can seriously impair the business operations of the victim.

This session will offer a view into DDoS attacks from the perspective of a large regional network service provider.  Specific topics covered will include:
  • Attack trends & insights (analysis of attack data obtained from the network)
  • Impact on Community Anchor Institutions (Research & Education, K-12 Schools, Healthcare, etc.)
  • Lessons learned from responding to DDoS attacks
  • Overview of MCNC's planned DDoS protection service
  • Mitigation techniques & strategies (for network providers and enterprises)
