Shibbing News (April 2004): Periodic news and announcements about the Internet2/MACE Shibboleth Project. For more information, please visit the main Shibboleth page at http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/

1. SFX / Ex Libris is looking for campuses to work with. They are planning to begin testing with Shibboleth 1.2 this summer. Currently they are in discussion with Duke University. They want to hear from other campuses that would be interested working with them. If you are interested contact Oren Beit-Arie <> and please carbon copy Steven Carmody <> and George Brett <>.

2. Elsevier is now working hard on Shib-enabling Science Direct and is looking toward a May 2004 rollout. They're interested in identifying several campuses that would like to work with them, as their shib-enabled service comes available. If you are interested contact Chris Shillum <> and please carbon copy Steven Carmody <> and George Brett <>.

3. Shibboleth was the subject of a short Network World article, "What about Shibboleth? This open source effort seems confined to research environments for now" written by James Kobielus. The article can be found at: http://www.nwfusion.com/supp/2004/ndc2/0322idmgtside2.html While Mr. Kobielus noted that there are "about 40 U.S. campuses" participating in Shibboleth, he neglected to mention not only the international participants, but also the commercial partners in the Shibboleth project.

4. CAMP Shibboleth Implementation Workshop -- Broomfield, CO, June 28-30

The CAMP Shibboleth Implementation Workshop provides CIOs, IT architects, directors, technical librarians, technical staff, and others concerned with sharing resources among institutions the opportunity to come together to discuss the planning, policy, and federation requirements associated with implementing Shibboleth, as well as the technical specifics of deploying it.

To get the most out of the workshop, participants should understand the concepts of or have experience in implementing enterprise directory and authentication systems and related policy and management issues. This event is sponsored by the National Science Foundation Middleware Initiative-Enterprise and Desktop Integration Technologies (NMI-EDIT) Consortium: EDUCAUSE, Internet2, and SURA. Additional support was provided by the National Science Foundation Cooperative Agreement NSF 02-028, ANI-0123937.

Registration is now open. For more information check the web site: http://www.educause.edu/conference/nmi/2004/camp042/
