Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that registration and the meeting program for the Fall 2003 Internet2 Member Meeting in Indianapolis, IN are now available.  Thanks to dedicated effort on the part of the Fall03 Program Committee, staff at Indiana University and Internet2 staff, we can look forward to an excellent meeting in October.  Registration is available at http://events.internet2.edu/2003/fall-mm/registration.cfm . After   September 26 a late registration fee will be in effect.

Highlights of the meeting include:

- Plenary keynotes by Paul Messina and John Delaney.  Paul Messina is a Distinguished Senior Computer Scientist at Argonne National Lab, Visiting Professor at CERN and Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Southern California.  He recently retired as Assistant Vice President for Scientific Computing at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Messina will address the topic, “CyberInfrastructure: Promises and Challenges,” during the opening plenary session on Tuesday, October 14.  John Delaney, Professor in the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington,will talk about “The NEPTUNE Regional Cabled Ocean Observatory: Interactive Networks of Remotely Operated Submarine Laboratories” during the closing plenary on Thursday, October 16.

 - Over 45 track sessions in advanced applications, middleware, network engineering, and relationships and partnerships, with their content covering such topics as health science applications, arts and humanities applications, video applications and technologies, teaching and learning case studies, directories and authentication, application and network security, network performance, campus bandwidth management, regional and national networking updates and futures, and developments in the K/20 and international arenas.  For program details, please see

 - Application demos on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott, covering such areas as integrated web, instant messaging, and videoconferencing; the impact of bandwidth on user experience in videoconferences; tools for network metrics; and VoIP's role in disaster recovery, among many others.  Further details are available at

 - A Gala Reception on Wednesday evening at the Indiana State Museum, hosted by Indiana University, will feature two demos, a large-scale, multinational performance event and a demo on antiphonal music.  The IMAX theater will have showings of the movie "Cyberworld", and the Museum exhibits will be open for viewing.  On Monday evening, a Welcome Reception at the Marriott will provide the opportunity for social networking, and on Tuesday evening a reception and event at the Ruth Lilly Health Education Center will give those in the K/20, health science, and international communities a chance to see demos, presentations and exhibits focused on health education delivery and assessment.
